The Omar Dengo Foundation of Costa Rica, is a private, non-profit organization that develops and executes national and regional projects in the fields of human development, educational innovation and digital technologies. The Foundation works on expanding the knowledge of children and youth with the use of digital technologies and teaching methods that reinforce creativity and capacity development and has led the introduction and enriched use of digital technologies in the country to foster learning, thinking, creativity, self efficacy and technological fluency in public elementary and high schools. It also develops training courses for teachers, conducts research, and provides special programs to help individuals, institutions and businesses gain access to technologies and innovative teaching methods. Its programs have a strong outreach component and provide priority attention to low-income communities, underserved populations and minority groups. The Foundation also provides consultancy to other countries that use technology as a tool for development.
The Omar Dengo Foundation frames its academic and productive activities within its Innov@ Institute of Learning and Technology which host a series of centers that provide educational services and channel the experience coined by ODF since 1987 to programs and projects of institutions, governments and companies in Costa Rica and in the Latin American and Caribbean region in the fields of education, evaluation, research, conception, and administration of projects of educational and social character. In addition, the Foundation manages since 1988 the National Program of Educational Informatics for public schools in Costa Rica, delivering information content, academic and training services as well as face-to-face and online support to 715 elementary schools and 209 high schools as of December 2008 and directly reaching 445,714 students in schools throughout the country.

The Foundation fulfills this mission by stimulating learning processes, creativity, innovation and the development of intelligence. Its programs give priority to marginalized children and youth of rural and marginal urban populations within the public education system. Its initiatives also benefit people, institutions and companies that require knowledge and skills to appropriate themselves of technology in an innovative and productive way, and to integrate new educational proposals that allow for improved levels of understanding and individual and collective productivity.
Among its objectives, the Omar Dengo Foundation also seeks to contribute to the scientific and technological development of Costa Rica and other Latin American and Caribbean countries that can benefit from its experience and developments.
